"Hoplon" means "weapon or arms," so a hoplite was a citizen of ancient Greece who bore arms. For centuries, the hoplites were the main troops of the fierce Greek army. A hoplite had standard equipment: a large shield ("aspis"), a steel-tipped spear, and a sword with a steel blade – in case the spear broke.

Our classic hoplite sword is a historically accurate replica of this widely used cut and thrust weapon. Its blade is leaf-shaped and acutely pointed, the pommel has a classic shape, and the steel crossguard is simple yet effective. The wooden grip is wrapped with dark brown leather and looks quite handsome in combination with its wooden scabbard, which is covered in dark brown leather and has brass studs and fittings.
