I love this cutlass. It is well made and solid. I have it hanging in my little outside bar along side by replica sten gun and Fairbanks commando knife. All great conversation pieces.

  3. A very fine pirate cutlass 5 people found this helpful

A very fine cutlass for pirates who prefer the "get ready to board" look, rather than the "let's go out on the town and pull a wench" look. Bash it about a bit, and it will look like it's been passed from pirate to pirate for a few years. God knows who it's been in. As Berry and Riptide say, it needs a bit of preparation, but that's where the fun is. The belt knob on mine was for a right hander.

Agreeing with Black Berny about the black dye on sword and scabbard, both need a good wash in soap and water to remove the majority of the dye then drying and light rubbing down of sword blade with wire wool or pan scourer prior to coat of renaissance wax. The effect of the black dye on the scabbard where it held is like splashes from gunshot and looks ok. I am not too sure whether the blade is actually carbon steel and fully tempered but time and processes will tell. Another thing is that the belt knob on the scabbard is for a left hander i.e. it would hang on the r.h.side and it fell off when opening the package but I have removed the scabbard bracket re-welded the knob and adjusted it for right handed use. It now looks good and I have enjoyed preparing and sharpening it, I am happy with my purchase which was delivered the day after ordering. This cutlass is light and quick easily drawn and reinstated in the well fitting scabbard, seems quite sturdily built and looks the part so all in all I would really consider it a good buy if you are handy and really want to get to know your sword or if you want something ready to use spend a lot more.

Super cutlass! Big negative point: the black dye used. On the metal, it's approximate... And on the scabbard, it does not hold ! But after sanding and passing the metal to the "Liquid Gun Blue", it makes quite good ! :)
