  1. Lovely swords and very good service 1 people found this helpful

We've purchased two of these now - one for me (28") and one for my other half (32") and we're really happy with them. They're lovely swords - the grip is a really good size for a woman (best I've come across, as all the others I've tried have been too wide, so uncomfortable), but isn't too small for a man to use comfortably either. The swords are beautifully balanced, so feel really light, whilst still having good heft. The blades aren't stainless, so you do need to maintain them (and keep fingers off!). We've put binding on our hilts, as they get a bit slippy. The service from Southern Swords was very good - prompt, courteous and items carefully packaged. Would definitely recommend both the swords and the vendor.

  2. Excellent sword for t'ai chi 0 people found this helpful

This is a great blade. The weight is perfect and it balances about two inches in front of the hilt, allowing gravity to assist in cutting and slicing. The fibreglass scabbard is very light, and simple in design, but fits the sword perfectly. Impossible to go wrong at this price, this is an excellent choice of sword for practitioners of the t'ai chi jian. I love it, and look forward to many years of training with it. The sword came well packed (the packaging included foam sponges to keep it centred in the centre of the box while in transit), and arrived in perfect condition. Southern Swords did a great job bluntening the blade for safety during training (and did so very quickly), and were swift to respond to all my queries - stellar customer service!

  3. Good Jian - For The Price! 0 people found this helpful

Ordered this on 14/02/2018 and received on 22/02/2108 as it was out of stock. (Note to SS - I would have appreciated an email telling me it was out of stock). I did, however, after contacting SS receive a rapid response with a delivery date which was adhered to - so kudos for that! As to the sword itself...really very nice looking - with a balance about 6" from the hilt - which is correct for a Tai Chi sword according to historical data - certainly not for a moderm Wusu! The blade itself is unchromed and not stainless steel - which, to be honest, I'm more than happy with. Hanwei seem to have had a bit of a problem with the tang - the locking nut is askew and the blade has sits at a slight angle in the hilt - however, they've done a good job as the blade is straight in the hand and aligned correctly with the handle. The sword arrived well packaged, and, as I said, on the day I had been promised. I've yet to use it in class - and it is slightly sharper than I expected it to be (Hanwei state that the sword is blunt) - but after a few Tai Chi sword form exercises it promises to be very nice to use. It's the first "real" sword I've purchased - all the others have been chrome-plated or stainless steel - not, from an historic viewpoint, particulary "genuine". This sword feels like a sword! So, to summarize, received in reasonable time, on time. Slight problem with tang - but still a nice, balanced blade, For the money? I'd say exceptional value - if only Hanwei hadn't have used fibreglass for the handle and scabbard!
