Bought these for a stage production with a lot of sword combat and so far they are holding up great. The pommel nut needs to be thread locked on to prevent itself from working loose over time but a fixable problem to have. Good tang found when taken apart as well.

The sword comes pre-oiled, and the blade is of high quality. I had not realised the scabbard would come with a very beautiful depiction of the classic ‘eques riding down the savage’ - seen depicted on many tombstones contemporary with the Spathae. There is a slight amount of paint not fully covering the handle but that is not really a problem. The blade doesn’t exactly match the scabbard, so when you place it in the blade slightly sticks out at the top at an angle. These are my only comments, but overall I am very satisfied with this, and so was the receiver of this wonderful gift.

I bought this John Barnett spatha on spec for a talk I'm giving about Roman swords. It's ideal for the purpose: the design is elegant and it hefts well. Purists will argue that Barnett's swords are not suitable for combat or cutting practice, but for a handling collection, this one is well worth the money.
