The Blade itself IS a little heavy but very sturdy. The sharpening Job was OK but not great. I sharpened it some more myself. A little discolouration on the handle and the hilt, the blade itself was perfect. Would buy again.

A well made attractive piece with a nice sharpening job done by SS. I'm just starting to collect a few European swords after collecting Japanese, I will have to do some serious forearm exercises before I try to do any cutting with this, They must have had right arms larger than their left :)

First of all, regarding the service from SS, I was a massive pain when ordering this - kept changing my mind about what I wanted and asked a million questions, but SS were amazing and helpful. Onto the product itself: Of course, you can't have everything at this price point - the scabbard is functional but the blade has to be put in in a certain way for it not to slide off under its own weight. But a cheap scabbard is certainly better than no scabbard for convenience of handling and moving etc. The guard is painted black rather than being blackened steel, and the paint is chipped a little here and there. (But I will probably sand it all off at some point). There was also some minor pitting on the blade of the sword, hence the 4 stars, but a little metal polish and sandpaper will take care of that in short order. However, these minor cosmetic issues aside I am genuinely thrilled with this purchase. The blade is naturally the most important part of the sword and it is fantastic. It flexes a little and returns to true, but it is a very stiff blade, which is exactly what you want for what is first and foremost a thrusting sword. I have seen rapiers from other manufacturers which are triple the price even TEN TIMES the price (literally) which have failed to get this right - meaning they are not suitable for thrusting tests. I still can't believe I got this beauty at this price-point, honestly it is so much fun to use, it glides through targets in thrusting tests with ease, feels great in the hand and the construction seems really solid. I also find it amazing that the hand-forging/hammering process can produce such a beautiful blade you have to look really closely to see that it's not machined, but the difference adds tons of character to the blade; each one is a truly unique piece!

A really nice solid built rapier. Everything as expected. If you are a stickler for specifics, the only things I can say is that it is rather top heavy and therefore not that well balanced, but that is expected for such a long blade. The black color on the handle came with a few bits apparently scratched off, and after slight use, continues to show signs of ware. Keep this in mind if you are looking for a super clean finish on the handle.
