Basket hilt swords have a special status in the history of swords: basket hilts represent the most advanced development of a dagger hilt but they are combined with wide, heavy blades like the ones found on medieval swords. The Scottish basket hilt sword is a very distinctive example because the hilt is unusually round and is traditionally lined with red fabric. The steel blade has three fullers and its width puts it squarely within the cutting weapon category. Although this basket hilt sword is single-edged, two sharpened edges are more typical. Made of wood and leather, the grip is wrapped with a metal cord.
Our basket hilt sword comes with a black leather scabbard featuring a mount and chape.
