The fleur de lis, a stylized heraldic lily, is not just used in France – but most people associate it with that country. After all in the 5th century, Merovingian king Clovis used this lily to decorate his standards and all of the French kings used the fleur de lis on their coats of arms from 1179 to 1798. Of course this royal lily found its way into the world of clothing and garb for people without royal blood. Our noble dress in is made of fine fabric with a fleur de lis pattern in gold. Its square neckline and high waistline are characteristic of womens fashion of the late 16th century. It is cut to be worn over a billowing chemise or shift. Use the lacing at the back – modesty panel included – to adjust this noble dress to fit your figure for the most wearing comfort possible.
