"Hizen Ju Makiyo" is a signature (mei) found on Japanese swords, most notably associated with a Gendaito-era (WWII period) swordsmith from the Hizen province (present-day Saga and Nagasaki prefectures). The name "Makiyo" likely refers to the specific smith, while "Hizen Ju" indicates they were a resident of Hizen province.

Swords signed by Hizen Ju Makiyo are considered genuine original blades, traditionally hand-forged and water-tempered. They are often found mounted in high-quality WWII Japanese Navy Kai-Gunto fittings, suggesting the smith produced blades for military officers during that era.

The Hizen province was a renowned center for swordsmithing, famous for the Hizen school founded by the first-generation Tadayoshi in the late 16th century. This school produced many highly regarded smiths, and swords from this region were well-respected throughout Japan.

This is for superior Gendaito/ WW2 Japanese Navy Kai- Gunto.
This is an almost perfect condition Kai Gunto.
Traditionally hand forged and water tempered blade.
Blade is in excellent condition with no bends, nicks or chips.
Only has some light scratches. (Which can be polished out)
Signatures on the tang. "HIZEN JU MAKIYO" It has a very nice temper line you can see very well.
The handle and wrapping is very nice and all original tsuba and seppa with matching number with very rare stamp on tsuka.
Stamp indicated who did handle wrap. Nothing is missing. Undamaged shark skin saya.
Handle has a locking mechanism to the scabbard with a release button.
This sword is a genuine original and it is still in excellent condition.
Overall this is a very nice sword that is a great example of a WW2 Japanese Officers sword.
I have never come across one yet to beat its condition.
This will be a great display piece and would be hard to up-grade.
Cutting edge 28 inc, sharp blade - handle 10 inc.

The sword has no major flaws at all and is in excellent collectors original condition.
